Tech Intersect #77: Cleve Mesidor-The Little Crypto Amendment to the Infrastructure Bill that Could
Title: In this episode of Tech Intersect, I reconnect with Cleve Mesidor, She is the founder and fearless leader of the National Policy Network of Women of Color in Blockchain, Policy Advisor to the Blockchain Association, and author of a memoir, The CLEVOLUTION.
In episode 26, we had an authentic and empowering conversation about race, crypto, and financial inclusion. We explored the importance of education in black and brown communities by dramatically reducing barriers to entry and participation. And we also explored the importance of the lessons of freedom from Juneteenth as context for the broader conversation of economic empowerment.
In this time around, we decided to capture our real time reflections on the bipartisan compromise to a crypto tax provision in the Senate’s $1 trillion infrastructure bill after a vote on Monday, August 9th. U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) announced the compromise involving Democrats, Republicans and the Treasury Department earlier in the day, saying it would exempt crypto transaction validators from a broadened definition of “broker.” One Senator stood in the way and blocked unanimous consent over an unrelated topic. But the industry showed strength and community. We live to fight another day on the House side soon.
